BIOGRAPHY

Ben Shelton was born on 9 October 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia, and comes from a tennis family — his father Bryan Shelton was a professional player and is now his coach. He played college tennis at the University of Florida before turning professional in 2022, quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young players on the ATP Tour.

Shelton is famous for his thunderous left-handed serve, capable of reaching 145mph, and a unique 'phone call' celebration gesture that has become one of the tour's most recognised signatures. He reached the 2023 US Open semifinal in only his second year as a professional, demonstrating a big-match temperament beyond his years. At just 23, he is widely considered one of the most likely first-time Grand Slam champions among the next generation.

His Australian Open 2026 quarterfinal run — before losing to Sinner in straight sets — further confirmed his standing. As one of the strongest American players on the World squad, he is in serious contention for a Laver Cup selection in London.
