Alcaraz leads Europe at The O2, but Team World have won two of the last three. Our in-depth preview of September's showdown.
When the Laver Cup returns to London's O2 Arena on 25 September 2026, it will carry the weight of one of the sport's most cherished memories. Four years earlier, the same venue witnessed Roger Federer play his final competitive match โ tears on the court, rivals turned teammates, a standing ovation that went on and on. Now, with a new cast and fresh rivalries, the question is: can 2026 live up to 2022?
The answer, based on everything we know about the confirmed players, may be yes.
The decision to return London was not sentimentality โ it was demand. The 2022 edition sold out in hours, generated enormous television audiences and produced the kind of social media moments that organisers dream of. The O2 becomes the first venue in Laver Cup history to host twice. Federer himself has said he plans to attend as a fan, which will add another layer of emotion to the occasion.
At 23, Carlos Alcaraz arrives as arguably the most complete player in men's tennis โ seven Grand Slams, world No. 1, and a quality that makes him the centrepiece of any team he plays for. At the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, he was the decisive figure in Europe's win. In London, he will be even more experienced and, quite possibly, even better.
Team World knows this. Fritz and de Minaur will need to neutralise Alcaraz โ probably by targeting him in doubles โ while winning enough singles rubbers elsewhere. It is a challenge that played out in San Francisco 2025, where World won 15โ9 in Alcaraz's absence from the event.
Yannick Noah leads Team Europe โ the last Frenchman to win a Grand Slam (Roland Garros 1983) and a charismatic, naturally inspiring presence. His vice captain is British tennis icon Tim Henman, who will ensure The O2 crowd is firmly on Europe's side. On the other bench, Andre Agassi captains Team World โ one of the sport's all-time great personalities and a tactician who understands both the game and the spectacle.
London crowds are different. The O2 generates noise unlike any other indoor tennis venue โ partly because it holds 20,000 people, partly because London treats the Laver Cup as a rock concert as much as a sporting event. European players benefit from a hostile-to-World atmosphere that can feel like a sixth teammate. World will need mental strength as much as tennis quality.
Europe are slight favourites โ home crowd, world No. 1 in Alcaraz, and depth across Sinner, Zverev and Djokovic. But Team World have momentum from consecutive victories in 2023 and 2025, and Fritz and de Minaur are in the form of their careers. This is the most competitive Laver Cup in years. Expect it to go to the wire on Sunday evening.
Prediction: Team Europe 13โ11 โ but any result between 13โ8 and 13โ11 either way would not surprise.
